Many NAR leaders and staff, past and present, attended the event to recognize Joe\u2019s accomplishments and lasting influence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/newsroom\/national-housing-conference-honors-nars-joe-ventrone-with-lifetime-achievement-award\">Read more<\/a>.<\/i><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\">What You Need to Know<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><i>VA Announces Temporary Policy Allowing VA Buyers to Compensate their Buyer Broker Directly<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After thousands of NAR members advocated in D.C. for veteran home buyers to maintain access to professional representation, a VA official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/magazine\/real-estate-news\/veterans-affairs-signals-temporary-suspension-of-buyer-agent-payment-ban\">signaled<\/a> last month that the <strong>agency planned to temporarily lift its ban on buyers directly compensating their agent<\/strong>. Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/newsroom\/nar-applauds-va-announcement-of-home-loan-benefit-changes\"><strong>the VA issued the temporary policy<\/strong><\/a>, which will ensure veterans are not put at a disadvantage while the agency determines when a formal rulemaking process is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>NAR launched an <strong>all-hands advocacy effort<\/strong> on this issue, working with Congress and the VA committees, meeting with the VA, collaborating with industry partners, and holding hundreds of Hill meetings at RLM.<\/p>\n<p>While applauding this important win, we continue to work toward a permanent solution. Last month, the NAR Advocacy team helped <strong>ensure language was included in a manager&#8217;s amendment to the House Appropriations bill<\/strong> directing the VA to determine whether the original policy negatively impacts veteran home buyers. NAR is also <strong>sending a letter to the House VA Economic Opportunity Subcommittee<\/strong> ahead of a hearing this week, encouraging members to advance legislation to ensure existing VA policies do not disadvantage veterans.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><i>Homeownership Month Resources<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bookmark and share <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/june-is-national-homeownership-month?cid=em_HOM-37\"><strong>NAR&#8217;s Homeownership Month landing page<\/strong><\/a> at NAR.realtor\/HomeownershipMonth. Produced by the American Planning Association and the National League of Cities, the Playbook\u2019s development was supported by NAR, the National Association of Home Builders, and the Mortgage Bankers Association.<\/p>\n<p>Read our <strong>latest <a href=\"https:\/\/realtorparty.realtor\/news\/blog\/unveiling-the-housing-supply-accelerator-playbook\">blog post<\/a> on this customizable resource<\/strong> and how local and state REALTOR\u00ae associations&#8217; efforts helped inform it.<\/p>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">FHA Increases Allowable Fees for Assumable Loans<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>In May, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/washington-report\/fha-increases-allowable-fees-for-assumable-loans\"><strong>doubled the allowable fees for assumable loans<\/strong><\/a> from $900 to $1,800. Assumable loans create opportunities for those with FHA mortgages who are struggling to sell their homes in high interest rate environments, and for consumers who wish to purchase but are sidelined because of higher monthly payments. But many practitioners report delayed transaction times, as the time and work needed to underwrite and process the assumption does not correlate to the amount servicers are able to charge.<\/p>\n<p>NAR advocated for this change to <strong>help facilitate the transaction<\/strong> and assist home buyers and sellers.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><em>N.J. Case Creates Model for Protecting Independent Contractor Status<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Last month, New Jersey REALTORS\u00ae&#8217; advocacy and legal efforts, supported by NAR, resulted in a <strong>favorable court ruling to protect members&#8217; independent contractor status<\/strong>. RPAC has <strong>4,684<\/strong> Major Investors and a <strong>28%<\/strong> participation rate.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The REALTOR\u00ae Party At Work<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><em>2024 Election HQ<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Of 249 primary contests, RPAC-supported candidates in <strong>228<\/strong> congressional districts have advanced to the general election.
