{"id":15142,"date":"2023-05-31T15:24:08","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T15:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/realtorparty.realtor\/?p=15142"},"modified":"2023-07-07T17:21:56","modified_gmt":"2023-07-07T17:21:56","slug":"santa-fe-realtors-promote-diverse-housing-options-in-housing-strapped-region-2-3-2-2-3-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-3-3-2-3-2-2-2-2-2-2-4-2-4-2-2-3-2-4-2-2-3-2-2-2-2-3-3-2-2-3-2-2-2-3-2-3-2-2-2-2-2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/realtorparty.realtor\/homepage\/success-story\/sar-hop0623","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento Association of REALTORS\u00ae Equips Local Aspiring Homeowners with Resources and Know-How to Begin Homebuying Journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Recent census data reveals that barely half of the households in California\u2019s capital city own their homes.\u00a0 To help the community\u2019s would-be buyers get started on the path to homeownership, the Sacramento Association of REALTORS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> held a first-time homebuyers expo at the outset of Fair Housing Month this past April, connecting over 200 visitors to information, resources \u2013 and lunch!\u00a0 A <a href=\"https:\/\/realtorparty.realtor\/community-outreach\/housing-opportunity\">Housing Opportunity Grant<\/a> from the REALTOR<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Party helped make it possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFind Your Path to Homeownership\u201d was the brainchild of the association\u2019s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Fair Housing Committee, says CEO Jessica Coates, who serves as the group\u2019s principal staff liaison.\u00a0 \u201cThey really hit a home run with this event, empowering the historically disempowered, and reaching those in our community who have not had access to critical resources.\u00a0 It strengthened our relationships with partners whose values align with ours as REALTORS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and demonstrated to the whole community that this is what REALTORS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> do to get you to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sacramento association is fortunate in having its own full-service event center, which not only serves as a non-dues revenue arm, but is also an ideal venue for a public expo. \u00a0Held on a Saturday from 10am-2pm, the event featured an exhibition of vendors and services drawn from the association\u2019s preferred partners, or non-REALTOR<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> members.\u00a0 Concurrently, a program of speakers shared information about the homebuying process, financial literacy, and resources unique to California residents, including the new California Dream for All program that provided $300M assistance for down payments.\u00a0 \u201cWe also presented a panel discussion with two young couples describing their own recent home-buying journeys,\u201d she adds.\u00a0 \u201cAs first-generation homeowners and second-generation Americans, they were speaking to an audience who could relate to them, and revealed things like how they chose their REALTORS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, and what gave them pause.\u00a0 It was a beautiful thing, and very inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the REALTOR<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Party, the expo was supported by the state association, local chapters of the Asian Real Estate Association of America, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, the National Hispanic Organization of Real Estate Associates, various mortgage lenders, and The Home Depot located just across the street.\u00a0 \u201cThey actually loaded up a truck and drove it over to us with a team of three staffers who provided fun building and planting activities for kids,\u201d says Coates.\u00a0 \u201cWe had wanted to remove all barriers that might keep families from attending, so having something to occupy the young ones was key.\u00a0 And, of course, the target audience for housing events aligns perfectly with Home Depot\u2019s customer base, so it\u2019s a good partnership for both of us to be building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The REALTORS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marketed the event a full six weeks in advance, with Facebook ads and through their own communication networks.\u00a0 They also hit the pavement, posting flyers in coffee shops and other local businesses with community bulletin boards.\u00a0 The association has a partnership with a local television station that brings in a REALTOR<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> for a five-minute monthly segment to discuss the current market;
